Description
Kewra hydrosol, also known as Kewra water, is a floral water produced through the steam distillation of the flowers of the Kewra plant, scientifically known as Pandanus odoratissimus. This plant, native to South Asia, particularly India, is highly valued for its fragrant flowers, which are used in various culinary and aromatic applications.
During the steam distillation process used to extract essential oils, Kewra flowers are steamed, and the resulting condensation yields two products: the essential oil and the hydrosol.
Kewra hydrosol carries a delicate, sweet, and floral aroma with hints of tropical notes. It possesses a fragrance that is somewhat similar to the essential oil but is generally milder and less concentrated.
In culinary traditions, Kewra water is used as a flavoring agent in various dishes, particularly in South Asian cuisine. It’s employed to add a subtle floral and aromatic essence to both sweet and savory dishes, including desserts, rice dishes, beverages, and some meat-based preparations.
Additionally, Kewra hydrosol finds applications in perfumery, aromatherapy, and skincare due to its pleasant fragrance. It might be used in natural perfumes, aromatic sprays, or skincare formulations for its subtle floral scent and potential soothing properties.
