Description

Rose hydrosol, also known as rose water, is a floral water obtained as a byproduct of the steam distillation process used to extract rose essential oil from fresh rose petals, primarily from Rosa damascena or Rosa centifolia.

During the steam distillation process, where rose petals are gently steamed, the aromatic compounds are carried over with the steam. When the steam condenses, it forms two products: the essential oil and the hydrosol. The essential oil, being lighter than water, floats on the surface and is separated, leaving behind the fragrant water—rose hydrosol.

Rose hydrosol retains some of the water-soluble compounds from the rose petals, imparting a gentle, subtle, and slightly sweet floral fragrance. It also carries some of the therapeutic properties associated with roses, such as mild astringent, soothing, and hydrating properties, making it popular in skincare and cosmetic formulations.

This hydrosol is often used in various beauty and skincare products, including toners, facial mists, creams, and lotions, due to its skin-soothing and balancing qualities. It’s also used in aromatherapy for its calming and mood-enhancing effects.
